Avocado was introduced to Europe from Mexico by the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. It was already cultivated and consumed by the Incas. It is a superfood, containing vitamins B, C, E and A, potassium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, calcium and magnesium. The Aztec word for avocado (ahuacatl) means testicles (because of its shape).
